Viña VIK Wine Tasting - Vinexx Wines
Date: Oct 17/14, Fri Time: 17:30:00-20:00:00 Style: Drop-In
Members and The Fine Wine Reserve welcomed Chilean rising star,
Viña Vik.
Blending Bordelaise tradition with New World spirit, Viña Vik was founded in 2005 with a singular vision: to create a Chilean wine in the Bordeaux style at a world class level; a New World wine worthy of the iconic moniker “First Growth”.
By bringing talent from both the Old and New worlds to Millahue, Chile, Vik was able to realize this vision in 2009, with the inaugural vintage of their eponymous wine, and refine and perfect it just one year later with the critically acclaimed 2010 vintage.
This highly limited wine scored 95 pts from James Suckling, instantly placing Vik among a small group of elite, upper echelon of Chilean producers, and putting the winery on the map as a rising star of the South American wine world.
Vinexx introduced Estate Manager, Gonzague de Lambert of Viña Vik, for a very special tasting of wine.
Wines Tasted:
2010 - Viña Vik - “Vik”
“During dinner, we tasted the first cuvee of the winery: 2009. Exceptional. We also tasted the 2010 vintage, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Carménère (35%), Cabernet Franc (6%), Merlot (5%) and a touch of Syrah (4%). For such young vines, I was absolutely blown away. What a density of fruit and great concentration. 2010 spent about 22 months in new French oak barrels. This wine is very dense with hints of floral notes, liquorice and pepper. While blind tasting it, you really think that it’s a red from Bordeaux, from a warmer vintage. Powerful, yet very fresh and balanced, the finish is a little heavier than the 2009, but it will evolve so well in time. For $100 a bottle, this is worth 95 points.
Keep your eyes open, because 2011 will surely be exceptional; we had the chance to taste each parcel, and it was very promising.
VIK is certainly the new star of Chile”
