Wagner Family Wines (Caymus et. al.) - Rogers & Company
Date: Sep 28/10, Tue Time: 05:00:00-06:30:00 Style: Drop-In
Wagner Family Wine Tasting (Caymus et.al.) - The Fine Wine Reserve and Rogers & Company Château, Villa and Estate Wines presented the newest vintages of the Wagner Family wines which includes Caymus, Mer Soleil, Belle Glos and Conundrum. International export director Kristy Skrabec was in attendance to guide us through the lineup.
Since its founding in 1972, Caymus Vineyards has focused its attention on the production of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Charlie Wagner, his wife Lorna Belle Glos Wagner and their son Chuck built their winery among the vines planted on the family's ranch in Rutherford, a district soon recognized for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Wagners' first production of just 240 cases came from the 1972 harvest. In 1975, they produced their first "Special Selection" Cabernet, made from the outstanding lots of that vintage. "Special Selection" Cabernet is produced only in vintages that Chuck Wagner feels are appropriate for this bottling. It is the only wine to have been named "Wine of the Year" twice by Wine Spectator magazine; both these wines, from the 1984 and 1990 vintages, were made by Chuck Wagner.
The lineup at this tasting included various vintages of the following wines:
the legendary Caymus "Special Selection" Cabernet Sauvignon
the benchmark Caymus Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon
the rarely seen Caymus Napa Valley Zinfandel
two beautiful Chardonnays from Mer Soleil in the Santa Lucia Highlands
the one-of-a-kind Conundrum
and three small production Pinot Noirs from Belle Glos.
Nearly a 100 members and guests passed through four sessions of this outstanding tasting over two evenings.
This tasting will be fondly remembered by all.
