FitaPreta Vinhos Portfolio Tasting - Members spent a wonderful afternoon tasting wine with world-famous winemaker, António Maçanita from FitaPreta Vinhos. FitaPreta is a Portuguese winery based in Alentejo, the country's most important red wine region. The climate is warm and dry, ideal conditions for making rich and voluptuous wines.
Portuguese winemaker António Maçanita and English viticultural consultant, David Booth started their wine adventure in early 2004. Since then, the wines from FitaPreta have enjoyed international acclaim, earning incredible praise from US wine magazines like Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast. The wines produced in Portugal's Alentejo region are precise, fruit rich, full of flavour and full of regional character. António also produces wine on the island of Pico in the Azores; in fact, he was responsible for making three of the highest rated wines ever to be produced from these islands, earning 91-92 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. We all enjoyed trying the Arinto dos Azores at this tasting.
António gained practical experience working vintages in leading wineries in California (Merryvale Vineyards and Rudd Estate in Napa Valley), Australia (d'Arenberg in McLaren Vale) and France (Chateau Lynch Bages in Medoc).
